How’s about Splat!
The Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation (PCO) held their Cartoon Industry Awards on Thursday 16th January at Channel 4 headquarters in London. ‘The Splats‘ awards, celebrates the best cartoons and cartoonists of 2024 with categories such as ‘Best Editorial Cartoon‘, ‘Best Caricature‘, ‘Best Cartoonist‘ and even ‘Best Nose‘!! These are mainly decided by public vote but I’m not sure how they pick the best Nose.
It turns out I won ‘Best Current Affairs Cartoon‘ for a cartoon which was published in Private Eye last year poking fun at GB News.

Thanks to the Voters, the PCO for putting on such a brilliant event, Private Eye for publishing it in the first place, Channel 4 and the Collective for hosting…… Which is what I should have said at the time instead of shocked word jumble. Dear me.
It was a great night even without the award. Lots of lovely funny people to catch up with and some cartoonists I’ve been wanting to meet for ages and tell them how much I like what they do.
It also was good to celebrate the artform at quite an irreverent night, which as you can imagine was a hell of a lot funnier than the Baftas and a lot shorter than the Oscars.
Not a bad start to 2025!

Update: Here’s a report on the nights events from the PCO.
