Southport Festival

Well you wait for one opportunity to draw a Big Board at a Cartoon Festival and then two come along at once!

As part of the Southport Festival on a sunny May 7th I was chuffed to be invited to draw a cartoon in the town along with fellow Big Boarders and chums Noel Ford, Rich Skipworth, Tim Harries, Pete Dredge. Working non stop alongside us were brilliant caricaturists Steve Bright and John Roberts.

Each of the Big Boarders were given a theme of one of the festivals held throughout the year in Southport (Flowers, Halloween, Fireworks, Air Show..). Luckily I managed to get ‘Comedy Festival’ as I don’t have that many Firework gags! I adapted a previous cartoon of mine but did have difficulty painting on what seemed to be a waterproof surface! Paint troubles aside I had a great weekend and it all seemed to go down very well with the public.

The event was well organised by Cartoonist Paul Hardman and Comedian Brendan Riley who kept us more than well looked after.  You can’t have too many cartoon festivals so hopefully this one will be a permanent feature in the North West.
