Harvey Pekar

Harvey Pekar

An caricature of Harvey Pekar for  ‘Draw Harvey!’.  A collection of drawings by various artists to pay tribute to the  creator of the comic American Splendor who died in 2010.

The autobiographical comic American Splendor first appeared in 1976 and ran sporadically until 2008 documenting the everyday life, thoughts and interests of Cleveland file clerk Harvey Pekar. It was adapted into a critically acclaimed film in 2003 starring Paul Giamatti and it’s certainly one comic book movie that doesn’t disappoint.

If you’re wondering “What with all that junk he’s holding?” it’s supposed to represent his life of writing, comics, Jazz and domesticity.

I had such a good time drawing this, it got back in to cartooning after all these years. That’s why it’s here.
